5 Tips to Holistic Skin Care

Holistic Skin Care
Holistic Skin Care

Natural skin care starts not with the remedies, formulas, or the special creams or oils, but with your overall health.  Holistic care can bring out the radiance in your skin without requiring any other effort.  At the very least, it will augment your healthy skin care routine.

First - Start with an Exfoliation

Some people prefer a dry brush exfoliation, using a dry, soft face cleansing brush to rub the skin and remove the dead cells from the surface. Others prefer to do it in the shower with an exfoliating sponge or loofah. Either is good for this purpose and both have advantages and disadvantages for skin health. Both have excellent advantages overall, including cleaning the dead cells away, promoting good circulation, etc.

Benefits of Drinking Plenty of Water

Second - Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition!

Make sure you're getting enough nutrition and that it's balanced. For most people, the number one reason they are having skin issues or even overall digestive or related health issues is water. Or a lack of water, I should say. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water daily. More is better than not enough. Avoid diuretics like coffee or tea in excess. Straight, clean water is best. Soda should be avoided altogether.

The next most common problem with digestive and nutrition ailments is fiber. A lot of the foods we eat that we think are high in fiber probably aren't. Any fiber you do intake that comes with fats is basically negated. Stick with healthy whole grains, apples, fresh vegetables, rice, and other good sources of fiber. The bun on your hamburger is probably not providing you with much fiber.

Third - Avoid Sugar

Many skin issues, especially acne and wrinkles, are related to sugar intake. Don't just avoid normal (processed) sugars, but also avoid corn syrup and similar additives. If you must use sugar, use a natural, organic, non-processed form instead.

Fourth - Eat Good Fats

Usually called essential fatty acids, these are the fats you get from fish (cold water varieties, such as salmon), walnuts, and flax. There are supplements on the market to provide these fats, but getting them through dietary intake is better for you and you'll absorb more of them.

Fifth - Your Lifestyle

Possibly most important, is to abolish your sluggish lifestyle. Get up and move around as often as you can, get a walk, ride a bike, do something that gets your circulation going. You don't have to break a sweat or get a hard “workout,” just make sure you're moving around as often as possible during the day. Get your blood going and you'll feel and look much better.

All of these five tips will help you invigorate your body, feel better about yourself, and will dampen or alleviate nearly every skin condition you can conceive of.  While healthy skin makes you look healthy, a healthy you makes for healthy skin no matter what.

So be healthy!
